5 At-Home Remedies to Soothe a Sore Throat



Sore throats are one of the most common ailments in the winter season. They are typically the result of infections including the common cold, flu, and strep throat. While they tend to be painful, they typically go away within a week.


If you need some help relief, try these helpful at-home remedies.


1 - Salt Water


Salt water may not provide you with immediate pain relief, but it is still an effective remedy for killing bacteria while loosening mucus and easing pain. Simply mix half a teaspoon of salt into 8 ounces of warm water and gargle.


2- Honey


Honey has natural antibacterial properties that allow offer pain relief and work to reduce inflammation. If you’re also suffering from a cough, it can act as an effective cough suppressant. You can mix two tablespoons of honey in with a warm glass of water or tea and stir it well. Drink as needed.


3 - Lemon


Lemons are also great for sore throats because they can help break up mucus and provide pain relief. Lemons are packed with Vitamin C that can help boost the immune system and give it more power to fight off the infection. Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice into a glass of warm water and drink for quick relief.


4- Tea


There are many different kinds of herbal teas you can try for quick sore throat relief. Green tea and clove tea both contain anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties to fight against infections. Chamomile, peppermint, and raspberry teas are also great choices for relieving pain and reducing inflammation. Peppermint tea can also naturally numb your throat and alleviate your pain.


5 - Humidifier


If you’re getting a sore throat more frequently than normal, you may want to invest in a humidifier. Dry air may be the cause of your sore throat, especially in the cold winter. Humidifiers keep the air moist and help to open your sinuses.
